10.5 How to be a world-class complainer
Half the battle in getting things done, questions answered, challenges met and solutions found is understanding how to form your query.
And doing that works best when you have training in complaining. I mean being really good at it. World class. Awesome.
This is so important, I did a video on it. Use what you learn from this when posting, asking, contributing in workouts and so on.
Go on…you can do it. Get the support you deserve by being specific about what you need. Here’s a summary:
- Give as much detail as you possibly can. Don’t just quickly tap out “This sucks!” or “I can’t log in!” Tell whoever you’re asking for help what happens when you try to do what you’re doing, and what you see when this issue pops up. Screenshots, error messages, crashes – let them know the details.
- If you’re responding to someone else’s issue, don’t guess. Post what you know, not what you think might be the right answer, or “what you’ve heard.” Include links that are factual, not “I’m not sure if this will work, but someone told me that…” kind of guesses.
- Don’t hijack the thread. Keep on point and on the subject of the original post. Don’t change the subject, or make a comment like “While we’re asking questions, I have one…can you…” that takes the thread off course. Stay on course and don’t change the direction of the post. Instead, start a new post if you have a new question.
Up next, we have a series of lessons that are specifically for viewers that AREN’T VOHeroes Pros, but would like to know how they can take advantage of what we have to offer.
Thank you so much for this video! I so wish I had gotten to this part of the curriculum before I emailed you with my question (to which, I apologize). I just want to say I appreciate all of this information and now that I have watched this, I know how to handle issues when they “crop up!” Bless ya! Julie
I love this post/video. Raises the bar for excellence in how we communicate with one another on here. This also safeguards VO Heroes to be this amazing space where we really support one another in a way you can’t find in other social media spaces. Another incentive for being a Pro Member. I can boast to others that I am part of this great community that has an amazing standard for how we interact. Thanks David!
LOVE THIS- Don’t change the subject of the post! Don’t Hijack! Someone is really trying to get an answer! A quick answer! Attention To DETAIL! Love this VOHero! I added a bookmark!
Your 1st point is exactly the way we teach people to write up bugs in the tech industry. Be detailed and give us repro steps! What did you observe vs what did you expect? Love it!
