How To Handle PFH and Royalty Share Plus Deposits With Your Paymaster

Hey there, hero!

Now that ACX has Royalty Share Plus, I wanted to take a moment to clarify how to handle our preferred payment procedure (50% down, 50% on completion of the book) when using a paymaster.

And I highly recommend Noah Michael Levine at Skywire Paymaster Services as he’s got this down.

I contacted him and asked him how he’d like us to do this, and once again, he proved how narrator-friendly he is.

Hope this helps!

David

  1. Great video David! Very informative.
I’ve been doing VO’s since the 90’s but never yet have done an audio book. I feel like I don’t work fast enough to make it worth my while. I did watch your video on perfectionism (taking too long to record voice auditions in order to get them “perfect”) and was thinking that would probably Be my issue with recording an audio book. In which case, I fear that one novel would take me a year to complete!!! lol
On average, how long should one take to record per page. I want to see if it is realistic for me to even think of attempting it.
    Thank you!

    1. That’s not a question anyone can answer, nor is it valuable. You don’t have to worry about that – you’ll record over time, for as long as you need. It depends on what process you train what ratio your work hours are to finished hours. For me, it takes less than a couple of minutes, usually.

  2. I’m a little confused, never having done Audio Narration before, I’m to ask for 50%of the estimated hours for the book, ie. 10 hours. Then I am to ask for the remainder, whether it is 5 hours or 5 and half hours (length of time for the book to be recorded 10 and a half hours total) before hitting the done button. Does that mean I do not hit the done button until the final payment has been sent to my paymaster or where ever?

  3. Isn’t Royalty Share Plus taken care of BY ACX? Do I need a separate paymaster? My FIRST book will be less than one finished hour (possibly less than 30 finished minutes)! I have to use either P4P or RS+ because of the union, which my RH seems to understand, but we’re having trouble getting the offer posted (he’d made a straight RS offer that I had to decline, of course). I was under the impression he just needed to pay the stipend to ACX, and they would forward it to me… but also, if my union rate is $250PFH and the book is, say, exactly 30 minutes, would he be obligated for $125, or the full $250, or something less, with the assumption that the “remainder” of my rate is covered in royalties? This is so confusing to me, and now you’re saying I need a separate paymaster, too? UGH.

(I’m in the middle of Part 1 of “Mastering ACX” on VOHeroesPro, but I’m also in the middle of this negotiation, so I have a ^lot^ of questions that may very well be answered in the course/forums).

    1. Please post this in the ProConnect group instead of here, so that your fellow Pros can weigh in. Short answer, yes, you’ll need a paymaster, and you always go with an hour minimum. And it’s not really an “ugh” situation with Noah at Skywire – he’s awesome to work with. But…make it a habit to post stuff like this in ProConnect.

  4. Great video. Thanks!
Does ACX recommend or require Eljin as their paymaster? It sounds like Skywire is pretty awesome. Thanks.

  5. Just happened upon this video, David, and grateful as always for you sharing your wisdom! Big help in dealing with a current offer on ACX. (I also find Skywire da bomb to work with.)
