13156: “When You Create Something, You Automatically Serve Others.”
Hey there, hero!
Clara Tristan is an excellent host and a wise woman.
She casually dropped that phrase…when you create something, you automatically serve others…with me when I appeared on her podcast.
And it so resonated with me, and hopefully for you – specifically because of the type of business we’re in.
I mean, you can doubt your level of experience and accomplishment, and look at your income and think it doesn’t come up to snuff…but look what you’re doing for others.
It’s best to remember that what we do has multiple effects in the world, both for us and for our audience.
How did that statement land for you? Let me know in the comments below.

I just got off of an interview Zoom call
kind of thing with Clara
Tristan uh I’m appearing in a um a
seminar situation that she’s having for
inspiration for actors and a phrase came
up she said it I’m giving her credit for
it but I’m stealing it
blindly and it’s something that I think
might give you comfort and also
purpose so we’ll talk about that in this
episode of the vo Heroes
podcast
[Music]
as we were talking we were discussing uh
the creation of content we were talking
about making you know films and doing
voiceover and doing courses and doing uh
things that support other performers Etc
and she said well you know when you
create something you automatically serve
others and it was one of those moments
that I talked talk about in another
episode where you listen with those
special ears to what people are saying
and that is so true when you create
something you automatically serve others
and you don’t even have to do anything
extra for it whatever it is that you’re
creating whether it’s uh an artistic
piece or a commercial piece or a uh uh
an Associated training piece or some
sort of coaching or just anything
creating something out of whole cloth
you’re automatically serving others
you’re also serving yourself but that
notion of being of service to others is
sometimes hard to visualize but if you
know that every single time you’re
involved in the creation of some product
or service or
production um that you’re serving others
that gives you some peace that gives you
some
inspiration and I’ve started looking at
everything that I do completely
differently now I’m just just really
excited about this notion that the
moment I decide I’m going to create
something I’m going to have a benefit
from that that I hadn’t expected before
I talked to CLA and so I want to thank
her for that and I also want to share
with you that this is the kind of thing
that you can use when you have doubts
when you feel impostor syndrome popping
up when you feel why am I doing this
what am I doing this for and those
things happen there’s also times when
you think oh I’m doing the best stuff
ever this is this is so good this is
awesome but then there are those times
of doubt and just know that you can sort
of Resort back to this this statement
when you create things you automatically
serve others if you need that kind of
support and that kind of uh confidence
building kind of thing and know that
when you put things out into the world
um somebody’s going to react to it
somebody’s going to resonate with it
yeah maybe you resonate with this that’d
be great hit the like button uh
subscribe to the channel uh click the
notification Bell make it look make it
go ding yeah like that um and share this
with an actor or a voice talent that you
think might need a little confidence
building or might need a little
reinforcement in the area of what their
uh contribution is to others in general
I’m David H Lawrence the 17th I thank
you so much for watching and for
listening and I will see you in the next
episode of the Heroes

David,
It’s these little enlightening bits you bring up I find to be most interesting and useful.
Keep ’em coming.
A great way to think about it. Thanks David.
