13295: The Dream Is Seductive. The Pursuit Is Productive.

We all know the dreamers in our lives,
the schemers that are constantly making
plans.
And I want maybe you’re one of those
people, but I have a feeling that if
you’re watching these episodes,
you also know that there’s some work
involved. And let’s reduce this down to
a very easily remembered phrase in this
episode of the VO Heroes podcast.
Here’s the phrase, the dream is
seductive,
the pursuit is productive.
And just to break that down a little
bit, you know, anybody can sit there and
look off into the distance and muse
about the future and wonder what’s going
to happen. What are they what are they
doing with their lives professionally,
personally? What do they want out of
life? It’s awesome to sit there and and
dream about the future. And the dream
can be really seductive because there’s
no risk. You can dream about anything
you want. There’s no work involved. The
only work involved is just how creative
can you be about your dreams, right? So
that makes them very, very seductive.
And sometimes
that’s all that’s on someone’s bucket
list is
saying it out loud, saying the dream out
loud. But then then comes the hard part.
And that is what are you going to do to
get from where you are now to what you
see in that seductive dream?
And it still doesn’t mean that if you
put work in, it’s going to end up being
a spitten image of what that dream was
when you first concocted it. But that’s
where the production comes in. That’s
why they call the whole notion of going
from uh a maybe I’ll put this script
together to a finished product.
That’s production, right? And so to be
productive, you have to pursue it. You
have to execute it. You have to put in
the work. not just dream the dream. Now
I may be telling some of you something
that you’re like yeah so that makes
sense but there are people in our lives
and you know just to be fair you might
be one of them. I might be one of them.
I don’t think I am. But you know, there
are times when I go, I wish I could I
think I wish I could do this. And then
I’m like, okay. And then I move on to
some other dream. Some other shiny
butterfly flies into my field of view,
right? But the notion that uh all you
have to do is dream is just false.
If you’re going to dream something and
you really want the results of that
dream, you really want that look, that
feel, that position, that product, that
relationship, whatever it is,
remember that dream can be very
seductive, but you’re going to have to
put in the work. You’re going to have to
pursue that dream to be productive. So
once again, the dream is seductive. The
pursuit is productive. That way you can
kind of keep yourself on track. And
maybe if you’re supporting somebody else
in your life with love and grace and uh
a joy for their future success,
maybe you want to remind them every so
often that yeah, it’s a great dream.
What are you doing to get there? What’s
the pursuit that you are executing to
get there? What’s the work that you’re
putting in? Where where are you being
productive? just as a gentle, loving,
supporting reminder. You know, it’s not
just the dream. The dream is seductive.
The pursuit is productive. Tell me what
your thoughts on that are. Are you
guilty sometimes of just stopping at the
whole dreaming part? There’s nothing
wrong with that, but don’t kick yourself
if you’re not there like, “Yeah, I’ve
been dreaming about this forever. I just
can’t seem to get there.” It may be
because no work is being put in. And
it’s not you that I’m talking about
particular.
Maybe it is, but not, you know, I’m not
aiming this at you. I’m aiming this at
anybody who has lovely, awesome dreams
and can’t figure out why they’re not
coming true.
The dream is seductive. The pursuit is
