13173: Overwhelmed By Excellent Choices?

when we’re presented with a number of
options that we need to make a decision
about a choice
of uh it came up recently where a
student had a number of options that
they could choose in terms of mastering
all of them were
great and they were really struggling
trying to figure out which one to choose
and I had a potential Solution that’s a
lot easier than they thought it would be
and I want to share that with you in
this episode of the Vo

podcast so my student wrote me and he
said okay I’m mastering my podcast
episodes and I’m mastering my Audi book
work and I’m wondering is audio cupcakes
still the right thing to use should I
use levelator and audacity and Peak
normalization there should I use my
podcast platform he was using libson
should I switch podcast platforms and
what occurred to me and what I wrote
back to him was you know any of these
are
excellent you could make this a whole
lot simpler and not nash your teeth over
it just pick which one works most
efficiently for you or is most
convenient because they’re all it’s like
you know if you’re choosing between
something that kind of works something
that works fairly well but not as great
as some of the best ones in the in the
options and one that works fantastic
well there I can understand where you
really need some help in choosing from
all those but if they’re all like up in
the like 99th percentile and you’re
basically choosing between one that’s
like exactly the same as another or is
designed to be similar to another you
know you’re not going to get more
listeners because you’ve shaved that one
little
piece or you’ve chosen one that’s in
that same uh uh place you’re not going
to have somebody remark out loud wow
this really sounds great compared to if
they’d chosen some other Master they
won’t know they don’t know they’re
listening for your
content and so I kind of want to give
you uh let you off the hook to a degree
when you’ve
got two three four really great
options the the way to go about this is
how does it fit within your process
what’s the
most lovely to work with what’s the
easiest what keeps you moving fastest
and I had a real Joy a real uh Advantage
when it came to audio cupcake which is
what I told him I think you should use
um in that it was designed specifically
to work within the structure that I
teach and so he was already using
audacity and he was already you know
doing his editing with the stairstep
method and stuff and audio cupcake fits
in perfectly with that he could have
also easily just used
libson process of mastering they have
one so does Buzz Sprout which is what I
use I think they call it magic magic
Something Magic audio I don’t use it I
use uh audio
cupcake but I said really um give
yourself a break choose one that works
and works well you might try them all
and then see which one fits in best for
you but don’t beat yourself over the
head to try and shave that that Nth
Degree that tenth of a
percent you know life is short you know
have more
chocolate that’s what I say I don’t know
if this makes sense to you I don’t know
if sometimes you get caught up in the
whole notion of oh I might make a very
very bad mistake if I don’t choose the
right one you know when you’re choosing
between you know some really great
options you kind of can’t go wrong right
