13141: Making It Easier To Help The Casting People Out

hey I want to clarify something that I
talked about in another episode uh when
I was sort of exhorting you to be the
consultant to a casting director and to
be definitive about the choices that you
make in an audition and to not try to be
as widespread and covering the
Waterfront I want to clarify that just a
little bit and talk to you about how
hard that can be and we’ll do that in
this episode oh and how much easier I
can help you make that in this episode
of the video Heroes podcast

so in another episode I talked real
briefly about
um the idea that some actors when they
do voice auditions when they do
on-camera auditions they will try to be
as as Broad and expansive with their
choices as they can just in case
the person casting the project sees
something that’s kind of along the lines
of what they want you know uh and I’m
telling you that’s that’s not going to
do it for you in most cases what you
want to do
is to be that consultant and to clarify
that is have an opinion
you’re an artist
make a statement it doesn’t have to be
outrageously bold and and different for
different sake that’s another episode of
this podcast but
having the faith that the choice that
you make and the choice that you present
here it is here’s what I think this
should be
and to be definitive about it there is a
power and a confidence in that choice in
making that choice and giving that
choice rather than going I don’t know do
you think this is a good idea what about
this one over here if you don’t like
that one how about this one over here
making that choice
is a watershed moment in every actor or
voice talents career it’s that moment
when they say I have the confidence that
I’ve done my homework on this script
I’ve made choices that serve the project
and served the story and I’m going to
present those choices with a
professional confidence that just exudes
yes right this is what I’ve chosen it
may be
not what they want they may go with
somebody else who made a similar choice
but the point is
if you can just say to yourself I got
this i got this and I got this on your
behalf
here is what I think the salesman should
say in this situation here’s what I
think the doctor should say here’s what
I think the animated rutabaga should say
and how they should say it right here
here we go without waffling without
going hmm I don’t know I’m gonna do my
best I hope this is good enough you know
just do what you think is best and be
done with it
you know I have a a a graphic here let

so what
someone’s waiting
if there ever was a truth
that we sometimes deny because we’ll say
to ourselves that’s it I’ll never get
another audition again I’ll never get
another job again I’ll never get another
opportunity again you will
it will come along and you will have the
choice
of being
sure about your choices sure about your
your decisions as to the role take that
opportunity and run with it that’s when
you know you’re a professional okay so I
just wanted to clarify that when I said
be the consultant I wanted you to be
sure of your choice I wanted you to
present it as the option that you think
is best for the casting person involved
