10 Words Of Encouragement When You’re Stuck
Photo by Aubrey Rose Odom on Unsplash
Hey there!
I want to chat with you today about our progress.
Or, on occasion, our lack of progress.
It’s easier to quit, to give up, to stop and declare failure to get something done than it is to really take a look at how much you’ve achieved and how much you’ve experienced.
That’s what these 10 words are all about.
Hope this helps!
David

hey there it’s David H Lawrence the 17th
and today I want to talk to you about
ten words that when I heard them I
thought wow that’s so incredibly simple
and so useful for those times in our
lives you know we take an awful lot of
effort and an awful lot of time in
progressing learning things and putting
those learning things those learn things
to use or getting a process in place and
then honing and refining that process
and all the while we’re looking at how
successful are we how good are we at
what we’re doing how far have we moved
down the journey how how far have we
progressed in our timeline and every so
often we’re stuck we stop we Plateau or
we fail and we wonder we start to doubt
you know do I really want to keep on
this journey is this something I really
want to do and you know we hear stories
all the time of people who’ve persevered
and they’ve worked their whole lives to
get to a certain place and then they
finally succeeded in doing it and those
are very inspirational and then there
are people we hear stories all the time
about people who are like yeah I kept
trying I kept trying I kept trying and
then I thought you know maybe this just
isn’t right and I tried something else
and I was super successful at that so
for every story of somebody who’s
persevered and you know broken through
the plateau and gotten past the Stahl’s
there are people who have said okay this
isn’t working for me and I want to try
something else and when I saw these ten
words on a row I thought this is clever
and it’s so truthful and so awesome and
those ten words are I didn’t come this
far to simply come this far
and I thought just beautiful I didn’t do
all of this work to stop here
or I didn’t do all of this work to get
to this point when I could have gotten
to that point
here’s what I mean by this we sometimes
get depressed or discouraged or sad
because we put so much time and effort
and sometimes money into things and it
doesn’t work out I believe there’s value
in seeing what’s worth learning what’s
worth doing what’s worth continuing to
contribute the effort toward and note
that you’ve come such a far distance
because the idea that you start at a
particular point with these great
notions of where you’re gonna end up and
when you get to a point where it gets a
little sticky or it gets a little a
little harder and you think yourself did
I invest all this time and effort and
money into getting to here no I want to
get to there so if you really want to
keep doing that keep doing that keep
pushing towards that and remember and
celebrate all of the efforts that you
put into doing it you can also have the
freedom to say I got this far and you
know what I’m not sure I want to go
there I’m not sure I want to keep trying
to do this but I do want to do that that
looks awesome
and I have all
that I’ve accomplished maybe I can use
it to get there so I didn’t come this
far just to simply come this far and
stop maybe I’ll go there keep going
or maybe I’ll go over there or maybe
I’ll try something entirely different
but don’t forget all of the lovely
delicious joy and satisfaction of the
things that you learn that you can use
and the things that you learn not to do
that you can also use
I didn’t come this far to simply come
this far wherever you feel like you’re
stuck wherever you feel like you’re
plateaued it’s just another step on the
journey and when you say those words
that can reinvigorate in any direction
so remember those and enjoy the meme
because I love making memes right
um I hope this resonates with you and
I’d love to know your story of getting
to a particular point and then
reassessing you know all these sunk
costs all this sunk effort am I gonna
stop right here now I’m gonna push
through this or I’m gonna realize that’s
not really what I want I’m gonna take
what I’ve learned and I’m gonna pivot I
didn’t come this far to simply come this
far I love doing these videos I really
have been enjoying this this this

I’m David H Lawrence xvii I thank you so
much for watching and I will talk to you
tomorrow.
Very Inspiring.
I put a lot of effort into a past relationship, so much so I moved halfway across the country. I went that far, and then I went in a completely different direction, back home to all the things that truly made me happy. I learned a lot about myself along the way. Thanks for the video David.
Thank You David, I appreciate you!!
Dayum. So simple, yet so profound.
Thank you, David. Right now that’s exactly what I needed to hear.
Thank you for your words of encouragement, David..
This video speaks directly to me right now…After years of investing an enormous amount of energy, time, and money in my VO journey, I’m feeling so stuck and discouraged at the moment.
I wonder if I’ve come this far to simply come this far? Or if coming this far does indeed mean that I’m well on my way toward the goal of being ready to deliver professional quality audio work…and I need to keep going…
My very first audiobook had challenges for me. I felt like quitting several times and also wondered if it would fail. instead this pushed me to re-evaluate my process, trouble shoot, overcome, and the book was a success. I reached out for help-and that is one of the biggest secrets to this business. I learned a lesson I carry with me to this day-We may be the feature voice to our audience, but we have behind us our personal staff of friends, coaches, good experiences and bad that help us. Since then, I have had many challenges and expectations not met, but I remember this lesson press on for the hope ahead, and joy of the journey. Great video David. Thanks for the encouragement.
Thanks David, just what I needed to hear today!
I loved it
Wonderful advice, David! I had a fair amount of success early in my career (member of a LORT company, 3+ years on a soap opera, etc.), and then hit a wall. During this period, and over the course of several years, I became increasingly discouraged, and reached the point of deciding another long-term passion of mine: I became a registered nurse. And after working as a nurse for many years, I realized that my passion for acting had never been extinguished. I went back into the business. Again, for several years had a fair amount of success, and then, once again, things began drying up for me. I was again tempted to go in another direction (back to nursing, etc.), but when I looked at options I realized that my passion still lay in performance and acting, and I simply was not willing to walk away once again. Looking back over my career and all of the time, training, and accomplishments, I decided that I must stick with my true calling, wherever that might lead. I had been told on numerous occasions that I had the tools to do VO, and had enjoyed the (very limited) time I’d spent in recording studios, and finally made the decision to pursue that aspect of my craft. So here I am…I’ve come this far, and have no intention of stopping now….
