13195: What Defines A Hero
Hey there, hero!
Creative types have no guarantees.
Actors, voice talent, writers…have no tried and true template to follow for success.
Almost everything about our journey is unknown. We have no idea what’s coming.
And that can be scary. It can be frustrating. It can be daunting.
But…it is heroic. Not everyone can do it.
But you can.
And I want to thank you for being heroic.
Give me your thoughts on being a hero (which you are!) in the comments below.

I run a voiceover training program
called vo Heroes and I’m very proud of
my students and clients they’re all
heroes and I was thinking the other day
about what defines a
hero and this popped into my feed it’s
as if they’re listening to me out there
on the internet and I’ll tell you what
this new definition is that I found and
we’ll do that in this episode of the vo
Heroes podcast
there are people that work in this
business that pretty much everybody
likes they’re not divisive they don’t
try to stick out like a sore thumb they
just quietly go about being excellent at
their work and one of those people is
Tom Hanks and Tom Hanks offered up in my
feed a very very cogent definition of
what a hero is and what he said was a
hero is someone who voluntarily walks
into the
unknown and when I saw that it just hit
me that my students and clients who are
all vooh heroes Pros fit that definition
perfectly they don’t know what’s coming
down the pike they don’t know if
voiceover is going to be successful for
them or not successful a vocation a side
hustle a full-time job what categories
they’re going to be interested in good
at successful at so much is is unknown
and yet they voluntarily fearlessly
lovingly uh focused they walk into that
unknown and I just want to take a moment
to give a shout out to all the people
who have put their faith in me over the
years to train them on voiceover and
other areas of
performance and I want to thank them all
for their dedication to both the
training that they get from me and the
path that they follow to pursue to
voiceover audiobook
narration areas of performance that we
kind of tangentially look
at and doing so with purpose not just
playing at it not just pity patting at
it but walking voluntarily and
fearlessly into the unknown thank you
Heroes I really appreciate it this is
for
you if you like what you’re hearing

“Walking voluntarily into the unknown…” That’s it right there!
(Now adding “hero” to my business card 😜)
Thank you for this! Empowering 🙏🏻
I feel really proud of myself for being a hero!! ❤️🙌❤️
Thank you, David! I love this definition. I’m gonna put it in my booth to remind me I am in the right place. As always, you are amazing and your timing is perfect!
This is SO true! It describes my decision to jump into this curriculum and to take this journey perfectly. I don’t know about “fearless”, though. I experience fear much of the time. But I forge ahead anyway! (Which is actually another great definition for hero I’ve heard.)
I would appreciate the opportunity to use my voice. I can raise, lower, be childlike, have a lisp, and do French and Spanish accents well. Thank you for considering me. Blessings
That’s a great definition! And thank you for your great training David!
