13232: Nobody Forced You To Face These Challenges

Hey there, hero!

The story of life is filled with dependencies, with our journey being affected by the challenges in our lives.

And when we think about how our situation might be better if we weren’t this or that or the other thing (the grass is always greener, isn’t it?), we can make arbitrary assumptions about how our challenges are so…challenging.

And we need to remember that we get to choose to have these challenges (or not), and ya kinda have to live with your choices.

There’s no sense in shaking your fist at how unfair the challenges are in our lives, when at any time we made these choices for a reason, and these challenges ensue…

…but that we can choose to go down another path at any time, and choose a new set of challenges.

Do you feel at peace with the challenges you face as an actor, VO talent, writer or other performer? Or do you grumble constantly about what a challenge your life is? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. I call them adventures, instead of challenges, that way it’s more fun to deal with them. In an adventure you have to think about the different steps you have to take or tools you need to bring to make it a great one. And part of the fun is the journey! So go ahead, have an adventure and see where it takes you. Thanks for a thought provoking post David.

  2. I appreciate how you lay this out. Yes- if you’re signing up for the long haul you should be prepared for challenges. New ones come up every year. I think it keeps life interesting. Take a deep breath and be your own problem solver.

  3. Once again, thank you. One thing I learned about myself a long time ago is that I enjoy different challenges as opposed to the every day garden variety challenges. For example, the challenge of boredom that comes with a “normal” job; the challenge of dealing with different people’s chaos as a manager and oh the joys of customer service in a restaurant.
At this point in my life, I prefer artistic challenges that make me a better storyteller, performer and person.
