My Best Upgrade All Year – My Chair

Hey there!

In the last year, I’ve made a couple of upgrades to my studio space. And the one I think was most valuable might surprise you.

My most satisfying studio upgrade for the whole year was my…chair. And it was so awesome, I just added this slide to my January VO2GoGo.com class on Mastering Home VO Gear to recommend it.

(Click on the picture to see the slide full-size.)

I actually owned the chair to the left (it’s a Steelcase Gesture, and it retails at $1495), but eventually, parts of it squeaked, and couldn’t be silenced for long.

That meant more retakes and pickups.

So, I looked around for a chair that simply can’t squeak. That means a quieter studio space, and, surprisingly, just as comfy (add a $7 plush seat cushion for extra comfy-ness).

The chair I got (and love) is a one-piece aluminum chair from Flash Furniture, available on Amazon, for about $70. It varies in price up to $100.

Hope this helps.

  1. Oh yeah, the chair is a major issue when we sit so much. Got one a couple of years ago at Relax the Back that has at least a dozen controls on it so I can change things up now and then. It’s a major ergonomic upgrade from my last chair – in price as well as support and comfort – and well worth the $900. I figure if I amortize it over 10 years, that’s $90/year and I’m writing it off as part of my home office. Good chair, microphone in correct position, etc. – all good for a fabulous 2016!

  2. If anyone wants a seat cushion sewn, make a paper outline of the shape and come on over. My 1964 Singer sewing machine and I can help.

  3. Having read this I thought it was rather enlightening.
I appreciate you spending some time and effort to put
this short article together. I once again find myself spending a lot of time both reading and leaving comments.
But so what, it was still worthwhile!
