13299: Some People Would Do Anything To Have Your Problems

Do you find yourself facing some sticky
challenges, some thorny problems as you
pursue your creative career, your
journey as an actor or voice talent or
writer? I just want you to keep one
thing in mind when it all gets to be too
much.
And that is what other people are going
through or would like to go through.
I’ll I’ll I’ll make it clear in this
episode of the VO Heroes podcast.
Listen, nothing runs 100% smoothly,
right? So, we all have things that we’re
working on. We have things that we’re uh
stuck with or that we’re challenged by
or that we’re trying to fix, problems
that we’re trying to solve.
And when we’re locked in trying to do
that, we kind of get myopic about
uh, you know, the level of concern and
how hard things are and how difficult
our lives are as actors and voice talent
and writers. And I’d just like to remind
you that there are people out there
who would give anything
to have your problems.
I mean some people would quit their job
uh suffer with uh less money uh you know
spend an a long time training and
practicing and rehearsing and honing and
refining just to face the problems that
you and I face every day.
And it’s a it’s a concept uh of sort of
relativistic uh frames of reference,
right? Like we look at what we have to
do to get an audition done or what we
have to do to get a spec copy done or
what whatever it is. We look at that as
something to uh deal with, right? People
outside the business, they don’t know
anything about how we do our work. you
know, they don’t know anything about how
we approach challenges, how we approach
uh making things better, easier for
ourselves and they would love to do
that. We forget that sometimes that
there are people who are hungry to be
actors or to be voice talent to to voice
an audio book or do an animation or to
write something. There are people who
look at what we do as how do you do
that? How how how is it possible that
you do that? So just remember
when you’re suffering with uh having to
do a self tape,
there are people who would not look at
that at all as suffering. They would not
say, “Oh my god, I have to do this self
tape.” They would do they would say, you
know, kind of the advice that I give in
another episode here. Oh, I get to do a
self tape. Oh, that’s awesome. Like so
remember it’s all relative. It’s all it
all depends on your perspective. It
depends on your frame of reference. So
just
something you might want to tell
yourself the next time you’re like
really frustrated with a problem that
you’re having is oh right yeah so that’s
this that’s that’s kind of like where I
am in this journey and this space and
that there are others who would look at
this as the coolest problem to have in
the world
might make you feel a little bit better
might make you make you a little bit
more effective in dealing with that
problem when you realize
um you know just how relative that whole
viewpoint is. I don’t know. You tell me.
