So, as I’m recording this, a brand new
year has started with all of the pomp
and circumstance and predictions from
the pundits
of what’s going to happen this year.
I’ve got a bit of a different take on
it, one that might be comfortable for
you in this episode of the VO Heroes
podcast.
So, here come the beginning of the year
listicles. the top 10 things that you
can look forward to this year. The top
five things you should get done this
year. Uh the top 20 ways to to lose
weight, to stop drinking, to increase
your success, and to get more business,
to book more work. How many of you are
getting those from members of the uh
community that teach us how to do
performance work? Huh? Well, here I
predict this and I do this without fear
of retribution.
I predict that what is supposed to
happen this year won’t.
What do you think of that? Huh? Yeah.
No, it won’t. And I love that.
Not
because the stuff won’t happen, but
because other stuff will. Other very
cool stuff. In some cases, not so cool
stuff. But other things will happen this
year that we have no idea are going to
happen. We aren’t prepared for. They’re
a complete surprise. What? You want me
to be in that show? Sure. What? You want
me to narrate your book? Okay. You know,
we have no idea what’s going to happen.
And I’m gonna say this
because there are people out there
making money predicting what’s going to
happen this year. Those people who think
they know what’s going to happen for you
as a performer.
They’re full of it. They have no idea
what’s going to happen for you. They
don’t know what’s going to happen for
me. I don’t know why they waste their
time trying to predict things. Well, I
do know why. Because they want to sell
their stuff. They want to sell their
their uh guidance and their their mini
classes and whatever. And I get that. I
have classes that I sell from time to
time. I I try to avoid
um I try to avoid predictions though
because we can’t safely predict either
what’s going to happen, what we’re going
to be good at, what we’re not going to
be good at, why we’re going to do things
once we start doing things, whether
we’re going to continue to like those
things. A lot we don’t know. So I again
demand that you take as gospel that
whatever has been predicted and is
supposed to happen this year, it won’t.
But some other really cool stuff will.
And I want you to enjoy that. I want you
to be ready for that. Uh to be the the,
you know, zigging when other people are
zagging kind of person
and to enjoy the unpredictability of our
business. Whatever it is that you do as
a performer, just fall in love with the
I don’t know, maybe part of it. What do
you think? Let me know in the comments
below. uh go to vohhereroes.com if
you’re not already there. That’s where
the conversation takes place in the
comments below the video and the audio
and the and the uh uh the the uh what do
you call it? The uh the words of this,
you know, the words are there. Um
have a conversation there. Be kind to
each other. Um you can certainly
complain about not knowing what’s coming
and wanting to have more insight into
it.
But do you really need that? How about
just have fun with whatever happens
happens. Yeah. All right. Hit the like
button if you like what you’re you’re
hearing. You can subscribe to the
channel. You can click the notification
bell and be notified when the next
episode comes out. You can share this
with another actor who might be really
holding on to what’s going to happen
this year. I have to know really
tightly. Yeah, feel free. I’m David H.
Lawrence the 17th. I thank you so much
for watching and for listening.
Transcript is the word I was thinking
of. And I will see you in the next
episode of the VO Heroes podcast.

That’s what I used to tell my kids when dropping them off at school: Have Fun!
I’m glad you wrote this David, it’s something that needs to be said but very seldom is.
Thank you!
The thrill of possibility is what makes being a performer so great!
so what you’re saying is, what’s supposed to happen? Is that what’s supposed to happen Won’t happen? But does that not mean that what you’re saying won’t happen? Doesn’t that mean that what other people are saying will happen won’t happen but it will? Oh my ADHD is having fun with this.
Hello David & VO Running Mates, I’m going to focus on my goals and not be carried away by the emotion over what some prognosticators may say.
