13210: Your 14,787-Step Plan For Success
Hey there, hero!
Listen or watch this episode for an actual ONE step plan to avoid oversimplifying the clickbait options you find online on your way to success:
Don’t be sucked into the apparent secret sauce of a overly simple plan to ultimate success.
I try not to make the “overpromise/underdeliver” mistake when I share things with you, but I can’t control what you see in your social feeds.
It’s rarely as simple as the ads make it sound…whatever it is you’re trying to do.
What are your thoughts on course correction and honing and refining and what actually constitutes a “step”? Let me know in the comments below.

podcast wait wait what did you say
14,786 steps that’s a simple plan for
success
the point here is we see things all the
time that say to us here’s a simple
three-step plan for Success five steps
to this I’m I’m guilty of it myself you
know I used to write a series of books
called 10 quick steps and the truth of
the matter is no plan we ever put in
place is one or two or three or five or
10
steps the 30,000 foot view may be three
simple steps or 10 simple steps or
whatever but there’s always dozens or
hundreds or thousands of little tiny
movements that occur in what we
do
and we have to pay attention to those
steps we have to pay attention to
getting things done uh with some minor
Corrections here and there with some
course Corrections with some honing some
finding so it depends on what you call a
step right uh but the big steps yeah you
can sort of put those in a big bucket
and say here we have three big
containers of things you need to do to
get this done and generally they’re
they’re called this right uh prepare
execute and then do a postmortem I don’t
know but but the point is we got to be
ready
to make changes make adjustments make
course Corrections and also be ready for
those occasional curves that are thrown
at us so it’s not
14787 always sometimes it’s
26 sometimes it’s a lot more than that
especially when you have a bigger
project so just bear that in mind when
somebody gives you uh an ad in your feed
on the Instagram or somebody gives you a
a pitch on something in a book
or in a course and again I I try to make
sure I’m as honest about all this stuff
as I possibly can be but sometimes I get
a little carried away uh just know that
there is more work involved than the
simplest of three step step plans I I I
just want you to be aware of it more
than anything that’s the reason I bring
it up let me know what you think in the
comments below I’d love to know how many
times you’ve attempted something and
said wow this is so much more work than
I thought it was going to be let me know

Yeah, voice-over, but I’m having fun, and that’s all that matters 🙂
Sometimes I think that the 5 -10 step plans do not take into consideration that we all come to a learning/project with varying degrees of experience. Therefore, someone may need only 3 steps and some 1000. It may only take this long to learn your equipment and then there’s marketing and ways to say things and 100’s of prospective clients with different ways they prefer. We are in a business which requires us to think on our feet, stumble, evaluate, learn, go again.
Thank you, David for always being you. And for always sharing your wisdom.
This reminds me of a concept I remember reading about in a book called The Slight Edge. Folks who are successful at what they do (happy, profitable, etc), tend to not ride or die by one or two simple blueprints; rather, they embody a *philosophy* of being in it for the long term, of embracing learning curves and failure and awkward moments, of learning, iterating, optimizing, repeat.
And all those “on course, off course” moments probably add up to ~14,787 😝
